Job Purpose

The Flight Operations Training Manager will play a key role in maintaining and managing the pilot training program and, together with flight operations personnel, ensure all activities are conducted in compliance with Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs), the Company Operations Manual (COM) and organizational policies and procedures. This position is fully responsible to ensure pilots are competent to fulfil their duties, and that training records are accurate and current.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Ensure pilots are competent to fulfil their duties by having appropriate training, qualifications, and experience:
    • that all pilots receive a documented line check that includes orientation of local procedures and environment.
    • that all pilots receive training related to seasonal changes.
  • Develop and document minimum experience requirements and selection criteria applicable for positions within the check and training program.
  • Ensure that selection of training personnel is merit-based, and that trainer personnel demonstrate consistent application of standards, ethics, and objectivity.
  • Ensure that flight operations training programs are managed in accordance with Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs) and company standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Develop and implement a competency-based training (CBT) program, a structured approach designed to develop and progress individual pilots primarily based on competency, for each aircraft type operated by Rise Air.
  • Ensure and participate in developing and implementing training programs in a timely manner to support changes to policies, procedures, rules, and systems and any associated modifications.
  • Develop training strategies in conjunction with designated personnel to ensure continuous improvement and standardization among fleet types and training programs.
  • Develop and implement a "train the trainer" program for training personnel and provide trainers with ongoing support.
  • Maintain flight operation training manuals in accordance with all regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Work in collaboration with operational control personnel to ensure that all pilots' training records are current and that all pilots are dispatchable.
  • Issue "stop fly" orders to pilots and notify operational control if training currency has expired.
  • Develop training strategies in conjunction with designated personnel as a response to safety management system (SMS) trend data and specific incident and/or hazard reports.
  • Oversee the flight operations portion of any learning management system to ensure that online training meets training program requirements and update as required.
  • Assist with risk assessments for flights and conditions.
  • Conduct and provide training in all base locations, as simulator training in various locations in Canada and the United States of America as an approved check Pilot (ACP).
  • Provide support to flight operations as required.

Qualifications

Typically, the knowledge and skills required for this position include three (3) years of training and development experience in the aviation sector relating to coordinating simulator, line, and ground school training. Experience as a pilot-in-command of a multicrew aircraft is required. The incumbent must qualify as and carry out the duties of training pilot in accordance with CARs and Commercial Air Service Standards (CASS). An approved check pilot (ACP) designation, or willingness to obtain, is an asset.

  • Demonstrated experience in serving a diverse and complex customer base.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills.

  • Ability to take initiative and ownership of projects and tasks and execute effectively and in a timely manner.

  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to organize, multi-task and prioritize.
  • Possess a working knowledge of Transport Canada Regulations and the CARs as they relate to 705 charter and/or scheduled airline operations.
  • Proficient in utilizing Microsoft Office applications and software specific to company operations.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an enhanced security clearance qualification.
  • Ability to support, strengthen and enhance safety initiatives.
  • Must be able to frequently travel to all bases for extended periods of time.
